My Experience:
After I had already gone to a competition in the UK, it was a nice warm feeling to go to London Open 2017 because I got to talk to the people who attended the UK Championship 8 months back. I back at a competition, but this time more than twice as fast. I was also well in the community and recognized many cubers from youtube. The competition started out quiet and stayed that way for a while through a couple events. It was not going to stay that way. Feliks Zemdegs, a speedcuber from Australia, has long been peoples idol because of how many records he holds and how much faster he is than everyone else. He was on the online registration list for London Open but he wasn't showing up. I asked some people there where he might be and one person said they saw him in the mall near the venue. We figured that he would arrive before the 4x4 event, so he would come soon; and he did. As soon as he entered the room, almost everyone there completely freaked out. Kids were crowding around him trying to get autographs on their cubes and I was sure one of them. I had made a poster of him in art class at my school and presented it to him. I managed to get a picture of me holding it with him through he chaos. After a few hours, people calmed down a but and we all practised. I did 4x4 and 2x2 that day and got averages a little bit over my goals, but was still happy. Before the day ended, I also was able to talk to feliks for an entire hour as he was practising. I even watched him on the last few seconds of a 7x7 world record which was crazy. On day 2, I arrived early and used the competition tables for practising for an hour or so before the competition actually started. I was averaging around 14.5 seconds at the time but in the 3x3 event I only got an average of 15.90 average in the first round. I was very sad because I hadn't got into the second round, but then the staff extended the second round competiter limit to the top 80 people of the first round. Yay, I was in! In the second round I got a 15.27 average which was okay but could have been better. The well-known cubers at this competition were Feliks Zemdegs, Evan Liu, Robert Yau, Mats Valk, Sebastien Weyer, Phillip Weyer, Charlie Stark, Yi-Fan Wu, and Ciaran Beahan. By the end of the competition, I had made a friend, and had a great time!

My Experience:
The UK Championship 2016 was my first competition I went to. At the time I was still a beginner cuber and just thought it would be fun to be able to hang out with hundreds of other cubers all in one place. People were very nice and they taught me how to solve certain cases faster and more efficiently. There were some well-known cubers there but I was new to the community and did not recognize anyone that I had seen on the internet. During competing, I didnt really care too much about what times I got and I got a DNF and a +2 second penalty on two of my solves but still had alot of fun. I also competed in 5x5 but I went over the cutoff time by 2-3 minutes in my first two solves so I was disqualified for the rest of the average. All in all, it ended up being a good competition even though I only went to last day of it.
